Today was fabulous!
I learned how Jay used resources from Cicero to teach the Boston Masacre from multiple perspectives. I think it's valuable to utilize primary resources while teaching American History.
Susie Miller shared a fabulous idea integrating art history and American History. She has students create Picasso replicas of President Lincoln and Washington. Very cool ides!

y = mx+b

Anthony Fitzpatrick is always such an entertaining presenter. He is easy to follow along with and makes learning so much fun. I will try to use some of the new strategies like: y=mx+b and the creation of political cartoons. I think the kids will enjoy making connections from the past to the present. It will help to bring history alive for them. If the make an immediate application with the material, they will more likely be able to understand the reason for it, and be able to explain things from the past better.

Picture Books

Dr. Fran Macko ignited my desire to read history content picture books to my students. The concept is so simple, yet it is very impressionable. The students are focused for a relatively short period of time, learn the most important facts, and are engaged the whole time. I used to use things like this often, but have come away from it in the past few years. I'm excited to try some of the titles she shared, like, John, Paul, George, and Ben and George vs. George. I think the content will be absorbed quickly, and will be retained for a substantial length of time.
